SBA in Puerto Rico
SBA Loan Preparation in Puerto Rico
Island businesses are eligible for SBA programs. The difference is how well the file is prepared.
The short answer
Puerto Rico businesses may access SBA 7(a), 504 and Microloan programs through participating lenders, the same as businesses in the states. OCS provides SBA preparation for island clients: program fit assessment, bilingual business plan and projections, document checklist management and submission support. We are not the SBA and we do not approve loans.

Full program access
7(a), 504 and Microloan are available through participating lenders in the territory.
Bilingual preparation
We work through the file in Spanish and deliver what the lender requires.
Document-first approach
SBA files are won or lost on completeness and consistency.
Local assumptions
Projections reflect island costs, seasonality and market conditions.
Programs and typical uses
- SBA 7(a): working capital, equipment, acquisitions, expansion, owner-occupied property
- SBA 504: owner-occupied commercial real estate and long-life equipment
- SBA Microloan: smaller capital needs, often for startups and very small operators
What Puerto Rico applicants should prepare
- Business and personal tax returns
- Interim financial statements and a current debt schedule
- Personal financial statement and résumé for each owner
- Corporate documents, permits and municipal licenses
- Business plan and three-year projections with assumptions
- Documentation of the equity injection and its source
Realistic expectations
SBA transactions are thorough by design. They involve more documentation and more review than a short-term online product, and they take longer. In exchange, terms are often structured for longer amortization.
We will tell you early whether an SBA route is realistic for your situation or whether another channel deserves consideration first.
